Description:
The major purpose of this program is to prepare employees (or potential employees) of Section 330-funded Federally Qualified Health Centers ("FQHCs") as basic level registered nurses, to help address the nursing shortage and recruitment problems experienced by FQHCs. If the A second purpose is to establish long term agreements between schools of nursing (SONs) and collaborating FQHCs to provide FQHC clinical sites for the clinical training of nursing students. The intention is that the agreement to serve as a clinical site for nursing student training would extend well beyond the life of this grant. It is expected that nursing students who are exposed to FQHC practice and programs will be more likely to choose to work at an FQHC, which will contribute to decreasing the nursing shortage at FQHCs.
